(serious answers only)

Yes, while it varies for different people, panic attacks can make you physically sick. Symptoms can be shaking, cold sweats, rapid heart rate, teeth chattering, uncontrollable breathing. It is your bodies natural response to an overload of stress.

Please try to take care of yourself - panic attacks are scary, but they do subside. When you are having one try to find someone who can help you regulate your breathing and possibly take you for a bit of a walk to help you calm down.

who has had anxiety and panic attack and what were your symptoms?

for the pass 6 month i been fighting depression and panic attacks i just been afraid of everything like going outside-doing exercise-being around people and starting work i tryed meds and had bad reaction to them.i started going to couseling for the pass three weeks and tomarrow is my next one but iam concern because my next visits i have to catch two buses and iam afraid that i am going to have a panic attack and geting to the therapies all panicky so if someone has the same codition what could i do besides taking deep breaths

I’ve had panic attacks for nearly two years now, and the earliest ones were the worst as I did not know what was happening. It started off when I felt I couldn’t breathe properly so I started to get emotional. Then because of all the panic, I felt a bit weaker, and I could feel a tingling sensation. Also, everything seemed brighter than usual, and I started to feel really hungry. My heart also started to beat faster than usual as well. I had the feeling I was dying, because my breathing felt bad, so I went outside to get some air which did help after a while.

After a few months, my panic attacks started to be based around nausea. Even though I’m not ill, I get a feeling of nausea from time to time for no reason, which brings on the panic.

When you’re in a situation that might cause panic, it’s good to have a feeling that if the worst happens (a panic attack), there’s a way of escaping that situation. For me, I carry a bottle of water and tablets with me everywhere (domperidone) that help with nausea. This does not prevent my panic attacks, but it does help in a way. Also, if you are in a busy place, walk to somewhere quieter for a while to give yourself time to calm down.

will the symptoms of a panic attack harm me?

Posted on Sep 22, 2008 under panic attack symptoms | 5 Comments

No. It is very frightening and if it happens frequently you should seek counseling and medication. But the attack itself won’t harm you physically. You can overcome panic attacks. I was treated for them in my 20’s but haven’t had a full blown panic attack for 20 years now.

Does Promethazine (Phenergen) treat symptoms of a panic attack?

Posted on Sep 21, 2008 under panic attack symptoms | 4 Comments

I am pregnant and can't take xanax anymore for my panic attacks. They have been coming back more frequently and my doc is unavailable for consultation. I was prescribed Promethazine for my hyper-emesis early in pregnancy and no longer need to take it. I don't want to try it for my panic attacks unless there is a chance of it working.
The only reason I asked is, wikipedia says that it is a sedative and used to be prescribed as an antipsychotic and I thought that maybe it would relax me enough to calm my attacks.

talk to your doc about maybe prescribing Vistaril. It is 100% safe to take during pregnancy and is the do-all medication. It can be used for anxiety, itching, nausea……phenergan is used as an anti-emetic…..Ive never seen it work for anyone with panic attacks.

Shortness of breath, pain in the breast and panic symptoms?

Posted on Sep 20, 2008 under panic attack symptoms | 4 Comments

My mother, 64, is to see a DR on Wed, but I am wondering what the possiblities could be. She lives in another state, & on the phone not too long ago she asked what a panic attack felt like, I told her of mine & she said she thought she was having them bc she was having shortness of breath. She told my sister she was going to have a mamogram(wed) because she was feeling pains in her breasts, no lumps. I think she tried to write off the breast pains & breathing problems as a mild panic attack, but I think she is sure that is not what it is. She lives with a smoker, has all of her life and she works in a bar around smokers. I am wondering if the DR's are looking for lung cancer. What other things could show these symptoms?

Hello???? Try heart disease, heart attack, atrial fibrillation, congestive heart failure, just to name a few. Your mother needs to get her butt to the ER tonight. Lumps in the breast will not cause shortness of breath, but everything that I mentioned will — along with the chest pain. Women don't show heart attack symptoms the same way men do. Sometimes all we get is jaw pain or a stomach ache. Lung cancer also won't show up as chest pain, but will present as a cough. Her problems sound heart related to me, but she needs to see a doctor who can examine her and she really should see one now, not later on in the week. Time wasted is tissue killed.

panic attack symptom?

Does anyone else experience a muscle pain or dull achy sensation in their arm during and after a panic attack? I've been really anxious all week and my arm bothers me every time I get like this, I know it must be muscle tension b/c Icy Hot makes it feel better.
I also get occasional pins and needles feelings in my hand.

Yes, that's just part of the "fight or flight" response kicking in. Blood rushing to the legs and head, adrenaline pumping round your system and all that.

If you worry it is something else, it won't help you get rid of the panic attack, obviously. It isn't something else. Just the body responding to (an imaginary) threat.

Controlled breathing from the diaphragm. If it doesn't make you too self-conscious, cup your hands around your mouth too - you don't need more oxygen but less.

Those who have panic attacks, what were your symptoms and how do you deal?

Have you always had these symptoms or the like and it was called something else? I have been labeled and have labeled myself so many things trying to figure out what my deal is, among them, ADD, LD, Social Anxiety, Depression and plain old Anxiety. Anxiety does seem to run in my family a bit on my mothers side and my mother herself is a bit OCD and of a Hypochondriac, no more then a bit. I don't know if I've learned this disorder or if it is a biological thing. I've also recently found out that my biological father thinks he's bi-polar, see why I feel crazy.

I'm just sharing my story and feelings, I guess so that you will share yours, it helps to not feel so alone, I know I'm not but it feels that way at times, this is one of those times, lol.

Hello, Let me first say you are not alone and panic attacks do make you feel alone, that is normal. I have had panic disorder/attacks all my life, I am 45. I have had a number of symptoms depending on the level of my anxiety. I usally feel like I want to passout,I feel like can't take deep breaths, I may feel shaky, I can feel like I'm having a heart attack, at my worst I felt as though my stomach is burning, I think this is adrenalin caused from extreme anxiety. Panic attacks have symptoms that are universal to all who have them, then there are symptoms unique to you as an individual. Panic attacks are not the end, you can function and live a "normal" life. I take klonopin which is specifically for panic attacks, it works, along with therapy. I have learned to control attacks on my own, it takes alot of self control and knowing yourself and symptoms well. I now only take .05mg 1xday that is good for me. But, as I said you are an individual and what works for me may not work for you. Just realize that panic attacks are figments of our overactive imagination/over stimulated brains that have manifested themselves into physical symptoms. My point is: to not let your overactive imagination take control, you can stop a panic attack dead in it's tracks by knowing yourselve/symptoms, I do all the time This may take time, so don't lose hope. Stay strong, and realize what is the worse thing that can happen? You can control your thoughts with discipline and therefore control your panic attacks and physical symptoms. You are in my thoughts and prayers, God Bless!!

is it possible to have symptoms or panic attacks everyday especially at night?

Posted on Sep 16, 2008 under panic attack symptoms | 2 Comments

i get really nerveous at night and like i am losing control

You can get panic attacks anytime and they are scary. I suffered for years with them, please dont go down the tranquilisers route it's VERY addictive.
In the end I realised no one ever died from a panic attack and just tried to ignore them. It works do something to take your mind off them - even if it's the ironing! Anything to distract yourself. Good luck hon, they will go if you can learn to ignore them
