Anyone else with Different Anxiety Symptoms than the Norm?

Posted on Sep 03, 2008 under anxiety symptoms | 5 Comments

I've heard so many people describe anxiety has rapid breathing, nausia, flushing, sweating, etc. but mine are so different than most peoples.
Does anyone else have other symptoms like mine? They include "forgetting to breath" or holding breath, pale in color, freezing skin and hands, sometimes fingers turn numb, shakes or shivers, goosebumps, worried and stressed facial expressions, feeling like your body is more of a machine instead of "you", forcing yourself to smile and chat with people, but not actually "feeling" yourself, or trying to "self-talk" to yourself to help you through the day?

I get severe anxiety, but I feel my symptoms are different than most peoples. Anyone else with the same? For me, it's only in social settings.
Thank you all so much for your answers. I do feel better knowing I'm not alone. I think the more I understand what's going on, the better I can deal with my issues.
I feel you are good friends, and I thank you for your honesty and understanding.

the symptoms vary from person to person..id also be checking your iron levels…i lived anxiety everyday..im recovering now from OCD..obsessive thoughts and feeling sick..thinking i was mad…and ill…full of stress..worry…and feeling helpless..im on a program that you may be interested in..this is not a scam site…its truely a gift from heaven…read it anyways …its worth a try……hugs

How come CHEST PAIN is one of the symptoms of ANXIETY?, what exactly is causing the chest pain?

Posted on Sep 02, 2008 under anxiety symptoms | 5 Comments

I know that chest pain is a common symptom with people who suffer from Anxiety but i want to try get down to the actual root of it as to why exactly Anxiety does cause chest pains? im asking cause i happen to be one of those people who do suffer from Anxiety & i get chest pains ALOT my chest feels like its tightening up or its like a pressure feeling along with the pain but im not qiet sure why the chest pains occur? so could someone please explain specifically why the chest come with Anxiety?

Thank You.

well, when people are anxious and worried they usually have problems breathing. not so much like asthma but becoming breathless and stuff. and when that happens less oxygen gets inside you which then causes your body to respire anaerobically (respiring without oxygen). when this happens your muscles produces lactic acid, and the build up of the lactic acid is what causes the pains in your chest. this is also why when you run sometimes you get a “stitch” in your side or muscle cramps. you are probably not breathing properly.
so next time you get anxious and stuff or go running, remeber to take deep steady breaths, and you might notice a difference.
:D

Is Medication the Best Cure for Anxiety?

Posted on Sep 02, 2008 under anxiety attacks, anxiety symptoms, what is anxiety | No Comment

Over the last several decades, the notion that medication is the best cure for anxiety has gradually been losing ground. More and more, doctors and therapists are embracing a more holistic view of anxiety problems and panic attacks.

Part of the problem comes from classifying anxiety as a “disorder” to begin with. A disorder is a medical condition which requires medical assistance or drugs to treat. Anxiety, on the other hand, does not fit any commonsense description of a medical “disorder.” It is a state of uneasiness and stress which can manifest in any number of physical symptoms and a chronic feeling of worry or stress.

Although pharmaceutical corporations have produced many so-called anti-anxiety drugs, university research confirms that the vast majority of these medications have no greater effect on an individual’s experience of anxiety than natural herbs, visualization techniques or breathing exercises.

All of this research has been gradually influencing physicians, therapists and patients to seek out alternative cures for anxiety. Determining which approach might be best for a given individual is subjective, and can vary according to the specific circumstances of the anxiety problem and the severity of symptoms. Both cognitive approaches and natural herb/supplement use have both been found to be effective in controlling or eliminating chronic anxiety.

Cognitive approaches could include one-on-one therapy, group therapy, visualization and relaxation techniques, Yoga and breathing exercises. A holistic cure for anxiety might use several of these techniques and exercises combined with the use of natural herbs and supplements. Many individuals report the best results from this type of multifaceted anxiety cure.

And because all of these techniques, herbs and supplements are virtually free of negative side effects, and possessed no addictive properties, anxiety sufferers often find them easier to include into their daily routines.

Although some physicians continue to prescribe medications for anxiety (despite the growing amount of evidence suggesting this is not the best course of action), more and more anxiety sufferers are taking matters into their own hands, and learning to control anxiety with an all-inclusive holistic approach that involves lifestyle changes, exercises and techniques, and possibly, natural herbs or supplements.

This all-natural approach also has the advantage of empowering the individual to see themselves as a part of the solution, not simply a “victim” of some poorly-defined “condition” or other. Using a variety of helpful techniques and natural cures simultaneously can often produce the best results. It seems that for many people, the best cure for anxiety is not medication, but information.

Anxiety attack symptoms still present after the attack a day ago?

Posted on Sep 01, 2008 under anxiety symptoms | 3 Comments

What’s wrong?

I used to feel the same way. Please take this into consideration. It worked for me, although I am not you.

I had overwhelming anxiety. It turned out to be my use of Splenda. Yup Splenda. How could something that taste so good, be so bad?

I like to say sucralose, not Splenda, because that is what Splenda is. And it is in a lot of stuff. Sadly, the package doesn’t have to say Splenda or diet to have sucralose in it. You have to read labels. So, you might be using it and don’t even know it!

Sucralose is poison. It ruined five years of my life. I had a laundry list of medical problems while taking it, including overwhelming anxiety, depression, mood swings, insomnia, gastrointestinal issues and more.

Go ahead, google: anxiety splenda or anxiety sucralose or insomnia splenda or insomnia sucralose

The slogan, “Made from sugar…” is very misleading. Splenda might be made from sugar, but it is far from sugar. The resulting chemical is an organochloride (chlorocarbon). Organochlorides are typically poisons.

carbon monoxide - made from oxygen so its like a breath of fresh air

What is anxiety? What are the symptoms? or Tenormin side effects?

Is this anxiety? start to feel not clear, like getting dizzy, unstable, body kinda like locks up, then freezing, then nauseaded w/ unstable feeling, feeling like throwing up & the feeling of like get me out of here if you are out in public, or the same symptoms even at home. What is this? is it anxiety? low sugar or blood? None of my doctors are telling me what it could be. Then after, I get so tired I just want to sleep.

Most people experience feelings of anxiety before an important event such as a big exam, business presentation, or first date. Anxiety disorders, however, are illnesses that fill people's lives with overwhelming anxiety and fear that are chronic, unremitting, and can grow progressively worse. Tormented by panic attacks, obsessive thoughts, flashbacks of traumatic events, nightmares, or countless frightening physical symptoms, some people with anxiety disorders even become housebound. Fortunately, through research supported by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), there are effective treatments that
Panic Disorder—Repeated episodes of intense fear that strike often and without warning. Physical symptoms include chest pain, heart palpitations, shortness of breath, dizziness, abdominal distress, feelings of unreality, and fear of dying.
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder—Repeated, unwanted thoughts or compulsive behaviors that seem impossible to stop or control.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder—Persistent symptoms that occur after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event such as rape or other criminal assault, war, child abuse, natural or human-caused disasters, or crashes. Nightmares, flashbacks, numbing of emotions, depression, and feeling angry, irritable or distracted and being easily startled are common. Family members of victims can also develop this disorder.
Phobias—Two major types of phobias are social phobia and specific phobia. People with social phobia have an overwhelming and disabling fear of scrutiny, embarrassment, or humiliation in social situations, which leads to avoidance of many potentially pleasurable and meaningful activities. People with specific phobia experience extreme, disabling, and irrational fear of something that poses little or no actual danger; the fear leads to avoidance of objects or situations and can cause people to limit their lives unnecessarily.
Generalized Anxiety Disorder—Constant, exaggerated worrisome thoughts and tension about everyday routine life events and activities, lasting at least six months. Almost always anticipating the worst even though there is little reason to expect it; accompanied by physical symptoms, such as fatigue, trembling, muscle tension, headache, or nausea.

Posted on Aug 29, 2008 under anxiety symptoms | 5 Comments

My dr. has tried 3 different meds and nothing seems to work except for xanax.
i have tried zoloft, celexa and effexor and all of these have made me depressed and extremly sleepy. stopped after just a couple of days, couldnt stand feeling like that. I do not have depression, just anxiety and the occasional panic attack.

yes, I have tried a few and most of them dont work I have to take lorezepam when I fly but during the day I take paxil its a mood enhancer makes me less anxious.

What are some of the symptoms of anxiety and anxiety disorders?

Posted on Aug 28, 2008 under anxiety symptoms | 6 Comments

Also, depression? Thanks so much.

I have trichotillomania, and I've heard that these can lead to it?

shaking
fear of social situations
inability to get words out
stiffness
depression
nervous stomach
sweating
rapid heartbeat
nail biting

Maybe it is the symtoms of anxiety that make you feel like pulling your hair out or the things that led up to the anxiety. Anyhow, I really dislike all these labels we all have these days!

Can some with PTSD be fine, but experience severe anxiety symptoms after seeing or talking to certain people?

Posted on Aug 26, 2008 under anxiety symptoms | 6 Comments

I was diagnosed with an social anxiety and panic disorder. One therapist from the past believes I have PTSD. However, I'm not sure, because I always seem to get better, and my anxiety will start to decrease and I will honestly begin making plans to improve my life. However, when I speak to the parent who was very abusive towards me as a child, I immediately begin to have the severe anxiety and depression symptoms like clock work. Even my speech is effected, to the point where I begin to stutter as I did during my childhood, and can barely talk to this parent. My muscles also become very tense and I'm left sore the next day.

Afterall, if the severe symptoms only surface when speaking to this parent or other abusers. If I have no symptoms when staying away from these triggering people. is it really ptsd? Has anyone else experienced these drastic changes in mood and anxiety as well?

That sounds like a classic case of PTSD. My father has a really bad case of it. Anything can trigger an attack but an encounter with the person who caused the trauma would be much more likely to do so.
