i was put on zoloft for anxiety & panic attacks, but now panic gone, but i’m really depressed, is this normal?

Posted on Nov 17, 2008 under anxiety panic attacks | 3 Comments

i wasn’t depressed before taking the medication, but now my motivation and energy are depleted…i’m not experiencing the terrible anxiety or panic attacks anymore (i still get anxious, but it’s normal)…has anyone else experienced this?

You need to see or call your doctor. You need a different antidepressant. I wouldn’t delay.

How to relieve anxiety/stress/panic attacks?

I’m thirteen years old, and I’ve suffered from anxiety attacks for about two years now. I have taken Magnesium before, but it doesn’t seem to help. I’ve been told practicing vegetarianism would help as well as exercising and meditating.
Generally it's triggered by school, or people. I believe I have social anxiety. I get nervous talking in front of the class.

Exercising and meditation are really great ideas. You really need a hobby though, something to keep you busy that you enjoy.

How do you overcome/control panic/anxiety attacks?

I am having a really bad one at the moment and it feels like I can't breathe properly. My chest and throat are so tight they are suffocating me and my heart is racing. I also can't stop the tears from falling.

Just wondered if anyone has any good suggestions that may help, I seem to be getting more and more of them and they get worse. I feel so silly.

I am suffering from PTSD (complex traumas), Chronic Grief & Chronic Depression.

Sorry and Thanks

Dear TJ
I dont know where to begin because I love u so much that knowing ur going through all this pain breaks my heart. I dont want to see u suffer as I know how awful it all has been for u. Please do not apologize for not feeling well. You have to take care of u and do whats best for u. You are a good person and deserve nothing less; and in time I hope u grow to believe this. You are allowed to feel as u feel. It is very normal and natural to feel as u do right now. Dont ever feel you have to explain your actions when it is about your well being. Nothing that u have experienced is ur fault or makes u any less of a person. I hope when u see ur pdoc and u explain to him in detail how the panic attacks affect u; not able to breathe etc. and he can suggest an additional medication to help u cope and relax. U know I wish u the very best and am here for u always. Feel good and Gob Bless.

Can I get medical attention for anxiety/panic attacks without my parents finding out?

Posted on Oct 25, 2008 under anxiety panic attacks | 9 Comments

I’m 22 and I’m still covered by my dad’s insurance because I’m in college. I’ve pretty much always been agoraphobic, and lately it seems like I’ve been having intense and frequent panic attacks (particularly at work), and I’m sick of not dealing with it. I want to talk to a doctor but I’d like to avoid having my parents find out. Is that possible?

Once you are 18 your parents have no say in your medical care even if you are on their insurance. Your medical doctor will probably refer you to a psychiatrist to give you medications. It’s best to be honest with your parents but they won’t find out because the medical community can not tell your parents anything with out your written consent

Why doe’s the doctors tell you to excersise to help with your anxiety and panic attacks?

Posted on Oct 23, 2008 under anxiety panic attacks | 8 Comments

i never excersise before i got this disorder and was great all the time. now that i suffer from anxiety and always anxious alot and have panic attacks why do i got to excersise for? and i just got done excersiing just a min ago and im tired and sore like heavy arms and legs and they shake a little now why is this?

Many of the previous answers are right… exercising releases endorphins which give you positive energy and make you feel happy, but this is a generalization. If the root of the anxiety isn’t dealt with simultaneously, exercise is only a temporary fix and wears off with time.

Anxiety & Panic Attacks! Can Benadryl cure or relieve panic attacks and anxiety?

Posted on Oct 15, 2008 under anxiety panic attacks | 4 Comments

I have been doing research about what over the counter medications I could use for anxiety. And I have been coming across quite a few sites that mention benadryl to relieve anxiety and panic attacks, which I know are brought on by anxiety. I also called a local pharmacy, and the lead pharmacist's also mentioned that many people use benadryl for anxiety and insomnia. I am unable to get out and go see a doctor, and doctors here are unwilling to come to my home and help me with this anxiety. Which I think is bs.

But anyway, so I was just wanting input on what people on yahoo have to say about using benadryl for anxiety.

p.s. The pharmacist also mentioned trying Chlor-Trimeton.

Any thoughts, opinions and answers are welcome, especially from people who are taking benadryl for anxiety and/or panic attacks.

It may help you as people are so very different. A non over the counter medication like propanolol, an adrenalin blocker, may be more effective.

If you take a beta blocker, say 30 minutes before giving a speech, it will help block off receptor sites that would normally accept adrenalin and cause your heart to race, get you in that fight or flight mode.

In all honesty, I have found little to no research on any OTC medications to help panic attacks. I do know pracitce or "walking though fears" is the most effective remedy

Just looking for other people with anxiety and panic attacks to chat with, serious replys only?

Hello, I have anxiety and panic attacks and also depression and I am looking for other people who might be going through the same thing. If you would like to talk email me at chilledsession@aol.com or i am also on AIM my screen name is chilledsession. People who are serious only please.

Web chats, blogs, etc., may be a good way to "get a grip," but I'll give you one that's even better. Consult with a therapist or local hospital or maybe even your regular doc and ask about a local group of people who get together on a regular basis to discuss their affliction. The group is usually limited to panic people only and whatever you say in the group STAYS in the group. Topics can include meds you're taking, your therapy, and control methods you use. Great support. I know -I had panic and was a member of such a group, from which came life-long friendships.

Anxiety/panic attacks madicaition. If you know about new meds, please help.?

Hi, my sister has panic/anxiety attacks on a regular basis. I am currently in China and will be here for awhile. I usually went with her to see doctors, because I went through this years ago and it empowers her to see that if I can do it, then she can do it. Problem is she has been takng alprazolam (Xanax) for several years and its not too effective anymore. Are there any new, cutting edge meds that she could switch too? I saw something about klonopin on another post, stating that it takes immediate effect? Is there anyone that has any experience with this or any other new meds. Many doctors do not know much about new meds, I need to hear from personal experience. She is already doing altinative relaxation techniques:Yoga, deep breathing, etc. So no need for advice about that, just about something more updated that she can talk to her doctor about. Wish I could be there for her, but maybe its good for her to face it on her own. Thanks for any info.

There are several anti anxiety medications your sister can ask her doctor about. There are also some very effective anti depressants which control anxiety well.

Your sister needs to get her doctor to refer her to a psychiatrist; that way she can get a proper diagnosis, and that offers the best chance of her getting the right medication.

A psychiatrist will also be up to date with any new medications that might help; general doctors are not so good with this and they also have less sophistication when it comes to deciding on the actual dosages.

Urge your sister to get the referral to a psychiatrist; there's no stigma attached, just point out to her that this is her best chance of finding a medication that will turn her life around!

Can crystal meth cause permament or presistant panic attacks and anxiety?

Posted on Oct 12, 2008 under anxiety panic attacks | 5 Comments

Hi i do meth on occasion since 2006 from then ive been doing it about once every 4 months since. I also have panic attacks and anxiety which started in november, i had anxiety since before the useage. I just wanted to know if usage like that can cause severe anxiety and panic attacks.

YES, it can cause that and worst. Paranoia at all times, panic attacks, anxiety, non-alertness, halucinations.
Meth is the most destructive drug that I know of, it is even worse than crack (depending on the strength of the meth) Believe me, that little bit of usage will lead to more as well, which will increase all likely hood of having those symptoms permanatly.
The good news is if you manage to quit the symptoms shouldn't stay with you. Those will manifest with long time usage and you will keep them for the rest of your life and require medicines to calm them.
I used to do it in the Rave scene in New Orleans around 1996-2000. I quit and I managed to not have those feeling anymore.

Has anyone used Kava- kava for anxiety and instead had worse anxiety and panic attacks?

Posted on Oct 11, 2008 under anxiety panic attacks | 2 Comments

I have tried just about any of the anxiety meds on the market and had very bad side effects. I decided to use something natural. I tried kava - kava and it actually caused more anxiety to the point that I began having panic attacks before the kava - kava got out of my system. Has anyone esle had this problem and if so what did you find to be helpful? Thanks

I tried extracting the resins from Kava Kava root, and found it did just what it is supposed to do - i.e. it is a specific spinal downer. Your body gets drunk before your head, and you don't notice it until you try to cross a road. Unless you get the fresh root you are not going to get much of a result anyway.

Didn't notice panic one way or the other.
