What is the difference between regular depression/anxiety and borderline personality disorder?

What is the difference between regular depression/anxiety and borderline personality disorder?

This is a great question. Some of the similarities are sadness, irritability, and mood swings but i would say that borderline personality disorder is much more severe because of the following:

frantic efforts to avoid real or imagined abandonment
very unstable relationships (love-hate)
Unstable identity- they change according to the people they are around so others will like them
Suicidal behavior is very common
They are very impulsive- they will do things without thinking, often stealing or having random sex.

Hope that helps!

Anyone know of any good natural anxiety/depression supplements?

Posted on Nov 14, 2008 under anxiety depression | 7 Comments

Has anyone tried any anxiety or depression supplements with good results or know of someone who has experienced worthwhile results while on them? They offer so many “promising” products online but it is hard to tell whether or not any of it is legit.

Hey I answered your email. I forgot to add that:
I took the Panicyl ad to my DO and he said stay away from it because it contains fillers and herbs that may hurt me. Instead, he said Neuroreplete is pure 5HTP and l-tyrosine. So he liked that better.

Lemon balm works for me too and my DO said to throw in some GABA with the Neuroreplete if I need it-but I haven't tried it yet. The lemon balm capsules are gentle and mild and help to relax you but keep you alert and they will get rid of knots in your stomach. I take that rarely but when I need it. There are no side effects unless you are allergic to herbs in general-take it with food and water. It's good for many other things too and it's a member of the mint family.

I'm also doing cognitive behavioral therapy which is working out too but the supplements are a necessity for me-as you will read about in the email! Good luck! BTW here's some info on lemon balm (not to be confused with lemon grass found in teas)

Could I get a prescription or samples of anti-anxiety/depression pills from my general doctor?

Posted on Nov 13, 2008 under anxiety depression | 6 Comments

I have really bad anxiety and depression problems and would like to try medication for it, can I talk to my familly doctor about it and perhaps get samples or a prescription or do I have to go directly to a psychiatrist (which i can't really afford)?

my general doctor prescribed mine. If they have samples, surely they'll give them to you. Ask!

Anxiety, depression?

My friend just took his regular amount of pills.
20mgs of lexapro 2mgs of xanax

and he’s spitting up blood, and has sharp pains in his chest.

What could be wrong?
He lives in a different state, and doesn’t have a phone.

That’s not good! Call an ambulance and or the police station right away. Those symptoms may not be from his normal medications!

Do you think that anxiety and depression could be hereditary?

Do you think that anxiety and depression could be hereditary?
Its seem like it. My dad used to suffer from depression I dont know about anxiety, and my uncle did too.Thats why I think my uncle became alcoholic, and committed suicide two years ago. Now I 21 and suffer from anxiety ,where I get get constant panic attacks and depression. My two brothers who are 16 and 23 do too. What is wrong with us if its hereditary. Is it chemical imbalance? Is it the way we were raised? When we were kids our parents used to be very strict and didnt let us go outside alot. But our older sister who is 25 right now doesn't have anxiety and depression. So why do I and my brothers have it?How can I get rid off it?Are meds gonna help?Therapy?Religion?Any suggestion will be helpful.

Yes. I think it's heredity. At least that's what I've read. It is a chemical imbalance in the brain. The hormone that is effected is seratonin. That's one of them. Chemical imbalances can cause an array of problems…melatonin disturbances (sleep disorders), etc. There are options to help, such as medication. You need to make an appointment with your doctor and discuss this with him/her. Once you get on a medication that helps, the world will become a much nicer place.

Is it possible for a sleep disorder to cause anxiety and depression?

Posted on Oct 16, 2008 under anxiety depression | 8 Comments

20 years old… I am having a sleep study at the end of the month and my doctor is pretty sure I have sleep Apnea, as I am tired all the time and snore really badly. But for the past 4-5 years Ive been experiencing really bad depression and anxiety. This past year has been the worse, as I moved to a new state and my anxiety has turned into what might be social anxiety. I feel nervous and paranoid around people. Always thinking they don't like me and that they are talking bad about me. Do you think the sleep apnea could have caused this, as I've had this sleep problem since I was a child.

When we are deprived of sleep, it can cause many different problems. It's good you are seeing about your sleep disorder, I think once they can solve that, you will most likely see your symptoms deminish.

Were should my Acupuncturist be putting the Needles to cure Depression & Anxiety?

I am currently undergoing Acupuncture for Depression & Anxiety, is there any certain location on the body were the needles should be placed.

It depends on the style, Chinese, Japanese, five element school etc. Probably Chinese protocols would include, Bai hui (Governor 20) on the top of the scalp, 5 element might use windows of the sky points around neck and upper torso, or release the 5 internal dragons, points on abdomen and legs, Japanese school uses points determined by abdominal reflexes. Most of the powerful points tend to be on forearms and lower legs, back points would also be included. It also depends on the insight of the practitioner and what issues he sees as require to be addressing. therefore protocols vary between practitioners. hope that was useful.

What kind of hormone problems cause Anxiety and Depression?

Posted on Oct 14, 2008 under anxiety depression | 2 Comments

Im having problems with anxiety and depression and my life is absolutely perfect. I was previously on Yasmin and came off of it about a month ago due to these problems and I wonder if I could have a hormone imbalance or something?

Possibly have a hormone imbalance? Sure you can, low testosterone was one small part of my depression. Like I said a small part but a part.
The hormonal system of a persons body is highly complex and interdependent. Medical science is first learning about the balance, it turns out there are many more hormones and types of receptors then they thought a few years ago.
Another classic for depression and anxiety is low or high thyroid

What if the people you live with are the cause of your anxiety and depression?

Posted on Oct 12, 2008 under anxiety depression | 7 Comments

What if your family is the cause of your anxiety and depression? You have no where else to go, and they also depend on you. Is going to a doctor a loss cause? Because spilling your guts would ruin everything. If your living with these people you can't very well go talk about them, and expect to to live with them after that.

its certainly not useless to go see a doctor. I suffer from anxiety too. I think that you have to accept that while the people around you may create circumstances that upset, excite or depress you, the real problem lies within you. A doctor can prescribe medicines(ssri's) to help balance chemicals in your brain and also probably introduce you to new ways of handling problems, sorting out and addressing your feelings and effectively communicating with others…all in order to lessen your depression/anxiety.

If you are not willing to put in a little bit of effort to heal and help yourself, then don't bother. But others are not the sole reason you suffer from this. I know that talking to an outside source can be extremely beneficial. Good luck.

What are some ways overcome anxiety and depression?

Posted on Oct 11, 2008 under anxiety depression | 6 Comments

I have a severe anxiety disorder and it lead to depression. My panic attacks first started more than 6 years ago.
I was awesome for a few years then I had another which started the whole recovery process again.
The relapse attack happened on a cruise and now I'm terrified to travel. That was almost 2 years ago, and I still don't want to travel. I always dreamed of going everywhere in the world.
Will I ever be normal again?

I focus on breathing and posture. I slow down my thinking in order to stay calm. I do about four or five deep breaths. Then, I try to relax and think about a place that is peaceful to me. Exercise is also helpful as it activates your endorphines (chemicals that make us happy). You are normal. Panic attacks do happen, and they don't make you abnormal. It's just something you'll learn to manage, cope, and eventually overcome if you practice using coping mechanisms. It takes time to become skilled at using these tools, however. I noticed anxiety and depression often are intertwined. Anxiety often leads to depression when it remains unchecked. To get out of depression (I call it a funk), I play video games, listen to music, exercise, watch something funny like Everybody Loves Raymond. It's important to laugh so you can divert your attention to something positive. More importantly, depression and anxiety are caused by negative thinking or negative thought patterns. By thinking positively, you have the power to overcome anything, you can travel wherever you like, and you can make your dreams come true.
