what are the symptoms of an anxiety disorder?

Posted on Oct 03, 2008 under anxiety symptoms |

i think i have anxiety issues. its hard to describe it but im not so sure if it can be a disorder. all i know is that i feel uncomfortable a lot every day with certain things.
my mouth shakes when i feel uncomfortable, and my body sometimes shakes when i feel uncomfortable too, but rarely
i have depression and ocd too

Unexplained fear and worry, a feeling something is going to happen to you but you seem powerless to stop it. You may experience physical symptoms, like a fluttering in your chest, restlessness, trembling, sweating, irritability, difficulty sleeping. There are medications available that will help you cope with these problems and talking to a therapist might do some good too. I wish you luck as I am plagued with these bouts of anxiety too which further causes stress and health issues. Somewhat different than Panic attacks.

    Anxiety Attack Symptoms
    Anxiety Symptoms
Panic disorders - Separate and intense periods of fear or feelings of doom developing over a very short time frame — 10 minutes — and associated with at least 4 of the following:
    Palpitations
    Sweating
    Trembling
    Shortness of breath
    Sense of choking
    Chest pain
    Nausea
    Dizziness
A feeling of being detached from the world (derealization)
    Fear of dying
    Numbness or tingling
    Chills or hot flushes
Generalized anxiety disorder - Excessive and unrealistic worry over a period of at least 6 months associated with 3 of the following:
    Restlessness
    Easy fatigue
    Difficulty concentrating
    Irritability or explosive anger
    Muscle tension
    Sleep disturbances
Personality changes such as becoming less social
Phobic disorders - Intense, persistent, and recurrent fear of certain objects (such as snakes, spiders, blood) or situations (such as heights, speaking in front of a group, public places). These exposures may trigger a panic attack.
Stress disorders - Anxiety (also known as post-traumatic stress disorder) caused by the exposure to either death or near-death circumstances such as fires, floods, earthquakes, shootings, automobile accidents, or wars, for example. The traumatic event is re-experienced in thoughts and dreams. Common behaviors include the following:
Avoiding activities, places, or people associated with the triggering event
    Difficulty concentrating
    Difficulty sleeping
Being hypervigilant (you closely watch your surroundings)
Feeling a general sense of doom and gloom with diminished emotions such as loving feelings or aspirations for the future
Symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, palpitations, dizziness, fainting, and weakness generally should not be attributed to anxiety and require evaluation by a doctor.

When I get panic attacks, I have a sudden rush of adrenaline. Then I get shaky and numb. My heart feels like it’s going to have an attack and I have severe chest pains. Also, when my anxiety is high, I tend to have very bad nightmares.

There is a fine line between anxiety and depression. You should see a doctor so you can get diagnosed and on meds.

you thing your dying and your not. your heart beats really fast and you get like hot and cold flashes. you might think ur like having a heart attack, but your not. a lot of people go to the emergency room cuz they think they are dying and are end up being told it was an anxiety attack

Negative emotions (like sadness, stress, anger, etc.) causes your Serotonin production to be low; when your Serotonin level is low, you are more prone to getting Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, etc.

Medication like Antidepressants (SSRI - Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) helps to boost Serotonin level.

But there are natural ways to do it without medication. There’s this strange herb called “St John’s Wort” - it is said to be more effective than Prozac. No, it is not for mild depression only and ignore those sayings. In fact, it does help anxiety and panic-attacks as St John’s Wort works like prozac. Other natural ways will be exercise, diet, more exposure to light, etc.
The problem is that, even if your Serotonin is balanced… you have that “learned behavior” in your mind. You need to break that initial cycle to destroy that learned behavior - Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) does this. A technique that you can use without CBT will be Distraction… There are several other techniques to help cope them!
Ok, to use Distraction: Firstly, try to….
