how to know if you have anxiety disorders?

Posted on Nov 23, 2008 under anxiety disorders |

i think i have a few anxiety disorders and well i was wondering cana blodo test, urine test and a heart scan determine if you have an anxiety disorder?

Here are some possible symptoms:
restlessness, muscle tension, excessive worry and irritability
insomnia, trembling, sweating and headaches
However, these are very common for any person and until a doctor has made a diagnosis you can’t know for sure.

idk but my dad has that and he’s on pills and gets all weird when he forgets to take them. he acts like hes by polar but his girlfriend says its just the anxiety. and she always nags at me saying i have it too.

but i dont think those kind of things can determine that kind of illness cuz its more of a brain thing dont you think?

While blood and urine tests can detect the physical symptoms of anxiety, they cannot detect the root cause. Everyone experiences anxiety at one time or another. To do so is perfectly normal. It only becomes a disorder when we allow anxiety to control us. Anxiety disorders are a pathology affecting our mental health. This can only be diagnosed by a mental health professional. Many people suffer from anxiety disorders and the treatment does not necessarily have to require medication. Only a mental health professional can properly diagnose and treat these conditions. So please make an appointment with a psychiatrist or psychologist in order to help yourself overcome these issues.

    Yes and no.

Certain substances can induce anxiety. For example, by taking high doses of caffeine, people are more anxious. This can be evidenced by a urinalysis or blood test. However, this is only in the case of substanced induced anxiety disorders.

Most “traditional” anxiety disorders (e.g. general anxiety, specific phobia, social anxiety, PTSD, OCD) are not detectable by conventional means.

Certain tools though can monitor anxiety. For example, certain psychologists use blood pressure machines to monitor your anxiety level. Then, through biofeedback, they help you learn how to control your BP to avoid being anxious. Anxiety is a physical response to a mental situation. Therefore, if your body can’t BECOME anxious, you won’t be anxious. By controlling your BP, even though you think a situation may invoke anxiety, your body won’t let you.

However, no blood test, urinalysis, or heart scan will reveal anxiety, unless it is due to a medical condition or substance induced.
