Could I get a prescription or samples of anti-anxiety/depression pills from my general doctor?

Posted on Nov 13, 2008 under anxiety depression |

I have really bad anxiety and depression problems and would like to try medication for it, can I talk to my familly doctor about it and perhaps get samples or a prescription or do I have to go directly to a psychiatrist (which i can't really afford)?

my general doctor prescribed mine. If they have samples, surely they'll give them to you. Ask!

Depends on the medication and the doctor. Some doctors will prescribe them, some won't. Some doctors are less willing to prescribe habit forming anti-anxiety medications. It all comes down to what they are willing to do to help you.

Most family doctors will prescribe you medication for such issues. There is a limit on how much a medical doctor can prescribe compared to a psychiatrists but they are able to prescribe you medications for psychological issues.

If the medication doesn't help, they will then refer you to a psychiatrist.

I'd go see a psychiatrist, this is what they're trained for..GP's just go by what the drug reps tell them…Learn about Cognitive Behavioral Therapy…More effective than drugs…

a gp usually doesnt prescribe anti anxiety medication because they are not properly qualified to make a proper diagnosis. if u do believe u have anxiety and depression problem u should really look into see a psychiatrist.

Usually they have some samples. Generally they will give you something the first time. If it doesn't work, they might refer you.
