Can a dopamine imbalance be a cause of anxiety disorders?

Posted on Oct 31, 2008 under anxiety disorders | 4 Comments

When someone has a shortage of dopamine, can this be a cause of an anxiety disorder such as Social Anxiety?

If so, what treatments are available when someone has these two psychiatric issues combined?

Negative emotions (like sadness, stress, anger, etc.) causes your Serotonin production to be low; when your Serotonin level is low, you are more prone to

getting Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, etc.

Medication like Antidepressants (SSRI - Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) helps to boost Serotonin level.
But there are natural ways to do it without medication. There’s this strange herb called “St John’s Wort” - it is said to be more effective than Prozac. No, it

is not for mild depression only and ignore those sayings. In fact, it does help anxiety and panic-attacks as St John’s Wort works like prozac. Other natural

ways will be exercise, diet, more exposure to light, etc.

The problem is that, even if your Serotonin is balanced… you have that “learned behavior” in your mind. You need to break that initial cycle to destroy that

learned behavior - Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) does this. A technique that you can use without CBT will be Distraction… There are several other

techniques to help cope them!
Ok, to use Distraction: Firstly, try to….

How do I deal with anxiety, guilt and sadness returning to work after baby?

Posted on Oct 31, 2008 under what is anxiety | 5 Comments

I am returning to work in 2 weeks and am feeling extreme anxiety and guilt about leaving my 6-month baby. I haven’t been apart from him for more than 6 hours since he’s been born. Financially our family needs two incomes, and I am obligated to return to work, but am emotionally not ready. Whenever I think of it, I start crying. How can I deal with this?

Just remember that what is good for the mother is good for the child. All involved in the family process have their own needs. Even at an early age children start to understand that they fit in to a larger picture. So getting back to work or your regular routine is really good for a baby. It provides a rythm to their world. Plus after you have picked the proper type day care for you and your child you can feel confident that the socializing they are picking up inherently is very valuable as well.

But if these feeling persist or intensify see your doctor or a therapist as post partum depression is real and terrifying.

Good luck with work! Enjoy.

Panic Attacks: Alternative Cure 1

A more “organic” reason for Panic. Video was cut off at the end, apologies for that and the messed up text/graphic at the end.

I got a little emotional at one point, which was totally unexpected. I decided to just leave the video as-is, because videos are just too darn hard for me to make! (I just ain’t no good at making videos! ;p).

Thanks for watching, please stay tuned. I intend to help every single person out there dealing with panic attacks.

Can panic attacks affect the brain over a period of time ?
I've already made my own thanks.

Hi, I am the author of http://panicattacksresearch.blogspot.com

Do not worry, I am not spamming my site - my site don’t sell products or anything. My site is solely dedicated to panic-attacks or people whom have anxiety. I give tips on how to sleep even if you have anxiety.
Please do visit and post any questions there or here so that I can help you further.

I have been a sufferer for 12-years and am doing well. My blog is dedicated to help. I will be updating my blog every 5-7 days on new ways to cope anxiety. I have just made few good entries on coping - I hope it will help you.

I started out taking prozac 20mg daily.. then it dropped to 10mg and now I am just taking 5mg and still doing very well. I might be considering taking medication off my life.
And most importantly, I am here to help you because I know how it feels to have anxiety or panic attacks.

I have just posted a new entry and uploaded some good files for you to do some relaxation.

All the best,
Seng

What are the symptoms of a Panic Attack?

Posted on Oct 30, 2008 under panic attack symptoms | 2 Comments

Twice now a few years apart I have experienced what I believe to be a panic attack. I always thought before that it was an asthma attack, but the inhaler never seems to help much. My breathing test measured 29 which is just one point into the asthma range so I don't treat it. For me it always started with trouble breathing when I can't seem to slow it down, which most times I can if I force my mouth closed and breath through my nose to slow it down. A couple of times now, I was frightened and couldn't slow it down for over an hour which left me pale, clammy, weak and disoriented. I also get to the point where I think I'm going to faint and can not move at all for fear of fainting. (Too much oxygen?) I have not yet discussed the severe attacks with my doctor.

It sounds like your describing hyperventilation. Yes, that is a symptom of anxiety and yes it is too much oxygen and can cause the symptoms you describe. Other symptoms include, chest pain, dizziness, heart palpitations, unusual fear.
